The process for applying for German citizenship begins after obtaining permanent residency and living in Germany for eight years. If you do not have direct blood ties, you must follow the procedures outlined below to apply for German citizenship. Before applying, you must first have a German residence permit.

During the process of applying for German citizenship, the applicant must personally go to the local Citizenship Office (Einbürgerungsbehörde) to get the necessary application form (Antrag auf Einbürgerung) and fill it out. Every individual over the age of 16 must apply in person. Applicants under 16 years of age must have their parents complete the application on their behalf.
The required documents are as follows:

Birth Certificate
Official document proving the applicant’s birth. -
Last 3 Months of Pay Slips and Photocopy
If the applicant is not working, a document proving they receive unemployment benefits or assistance, along with a photocopy. -
Passport Less Than 10 Years Old, with At Least Two Blank Pages
Original passport and photocopies of the processed pages. -
Marriage Certificate and Photocopy
The marriage certificate and photocopies of the relevant pages. If previously divorced, a court decision related to the divorce and its German translation is required. -
Diploma or School Certificate Proving Sufficient German Language Knowledge
A certificate showing sufficient knowledge of the German language. -
If Applicable, Children’s School Reports
School reports for the applicant's children, if applicable.
