🇵🇹 Portugal Family Visit Visa
Turkish citizens or foreign nationals residing in Turkey with a legal residence permit valid for at least 2 months who wish to visit family members or close friends living in Portugal must apply for a Portugal Family Visit Visa. Holders of Turkish Special (Green), Service (Grey), and Diplomatic (Black) passports are exempt from the Portugal Family Visit Visa for stays not exceeding 90 days.
The most important document in family visit visa applications is the invitation letter from the family member or friend residing in Portugal. This letter may be sent by fax or e-mail. However, the inviting person must also attach copies of their residence permit, ID card, passport, visa, and property deed or rental contract of their residence. The invitation must also state the degree of kinship with the applicant.
In Family Visit Visa applications, it is essential that the documents are prepared completely, accurately, and with current dates. Missing or incorrect documents may result in rejection or delays in your application. Below you will find the updated 2025 document list and application procedures for the Portugal Family Visit Visa. The expert team of Marsel Visa provides professional consultancy throughout your process to ensure a smooth and timely result.

🕒 Portugal Family Visit Visa Application Process
Once your documents reach Marsel Visa, our experts carefully check them. If there are any missing or incorrect documents, you will be informed, and corrections will be requested. During the evaluation, visa officers may also request additional documents.
The appointment process is managed by the Embassy of Portugal in Ankara and the Consulate General of Hungary in Istanbul. Applicants who have obtained a Schengen visa in the last 5 years do not need to appear in person for fingerprinting; it is sufficient to send the documents to Marsel Visa by courier. First-time applicants or those without a Schengen visa in the last 5 years must attend the biometric data appointment in person.
On the appointment day, a Marsel Visa consultant will meet you at the consulate and accompany you during the fingerprint and biometric data collection to avoid any issues. If deemed necessary, the consulate may call the applicant for a face-to-face interview or request additional documents.
🕒 How Many Days Does It Take to Get a Portugal Family Visit Visa?
The competent authorities for Portugal Family Visit Visa applications are the Embassy of Portugal in Ankara and the Consulate General of Hungary in Istanbul. Applications are generally finalized within 7-15 business days, provided no additional documents are requested. However, this period may be extended due to official holidays or workload. It is recommended to apply at least 1 month before your planned travel date. Applications made earlier than 3 months before the trip will not be considered.
Once your visa is approved and your passport is delivered, you must immediately check the accuracy of your name, surname, and photo on the visa page. If there is any mistake, inform the consulate’s visa section without delay. It should also be noted that approval of the Family Visit Visa does not guarantee entry into Portugal; the final decision lies with the border police at the point of entry.
📌 Important Notes
Applicants under 18 must attend the visa appointment together with their parents, and both parents’ names must be listed during the appointment scheduling.
Applicants under the age of 12 are not required to apply in person.
In family or couple applications, each applicant is assessed individually; therefore, all required documents must be prepared separately for each person.
Documents that demonstrate professional status in Turkey, such as student certificates and employment contracts, must be submitted along with their translations in Portuguese or English.
