The Romania transit visa grants the holder the right to transit through the country. The visa allows a maximum stay of 5 days in Romania. It can be issued as single-entry, double-entry, or multiple-entry, and each entry allows a maximum stay of 5 days. For road transit to countries such as Belarus, Ukraine, and Moldova via Romania, obtaining a transit visa is required.
📝 Types of Romania Transit Visa
- Airport Transit Visa (Type A): This visa allows entry to the international area of the airport and stays until boarding the plane to the final destination country.
- Transit Visa (Type B): This visa allows entry to Romania for transit purposes for a period not exceeding 5 days.
For air travel, visa-free transit is usually allowed for up to 24 hours, but for longer stays or road transit, a Type B visa is required.
⏱ Processing Time for Romania Transit Visa
Transit visa applications are generally processed within 6-7 business days after your appointment. It is recommended to complete your application at least 15 days before your travel date. If you realize at the last minute that you need a transit visa, you may request expedited processing at the consulate.
💰 Romania Transit Visa Fee
The Romania transit visa fee is €90. This amount covers only the visa fee; travel health insurance, consultancy fees, and bank commissions are separate.
Payment Instructions:
After completing your online application and attending your appointment, if there are no missing or incorrect documents, the consular officer will provide payment instructions. The fee is deposited to the designated bank, and the receipt is returned to the consulate.
🧾 Required Documents for Romania Transit Visa
Transit visa applications require proof of travel to the destination country and personal documents. Consular officers may request additional documents.
Basic Documents:
- Passport (valid at least 3 months after travel) and previous passports, if any
- Copy of ID card
- 2 biometric photos (35x45 mm, recent, not used for any other visa or passport)
- Population Registration Certificate (can be obtained via e-Government)
- Criminal Record Certificate (can be obtained via e-Government)
- Cover Letter (explaining purpose of travel and transit duration)
- Vehicle documents, if traveling by car: green insurance, vehicle registration, driver’s license copy, and notarized power of attorney if the vehicle is not yours
- Travel Health Insurance (Covid-19 coverage, €30,000 minimum coverage, valid from one day before departure to one day after return)
For Employees:
- English employment and leave letter (stamped and signed)
- Company documents (original or e-signed activity certificate, tax certificate, trade registry gazette, signature circular copies)
- Social security registration and service record (barcode, e-Government)
- Last 3 months’ payslips (stamped and signed) and social security employment notification
- Personal bank statement (last 3 months, stamped and signed, with bank officer’s signature circular copy)
For Employers:
- Employment and leave letter (English, stamped and signed)
- Company documents (original or e-signed activity certificate, tax certificate, trade registry gazette, signature circular copies)
- Social security registration and service record (e-Government)
- Personal bank statement (last 3 months, stamped and signed, with signature circular copy)
For Students:
- Student certificate (can be obtained via e-Government)
- If under 18: notarized consent letter from both parents allowing the child to travel abroad

Applicants can apply based on their residence area under the jurisdiction of the relevant diplomatic mission or via the e-visa portal online application.
🛂 Who is Exempt from Romania Transit Visa
- Turkish citizens holding a residence permit issued by an EU or Schengen country are exempt from transit visa for up to 5 days, provided it does not exceed the validity of their residence permit.
- Schengen residence permit holders can enter Romania without a visa for up to 90 days within 180 days, provided the presented documents are valid and approved accommodation duration is respected.
