🇳🇴 Norway Family Visit Visa Required Documents

If you plan to visit your family members or relatives residing in Norway, you must apply for a Norway Family Visit Visa. This visa falls under the short-term Schengen category. The documents required for a Norway family visit visa have been updated for 2025, and applicants must prepare them completely and accurately in line with the consulate’s requirements.

The most important document for a Norway family visit visa application is the invitation letter approved by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI). Without this invitation, the application cannot be accepted. It is also crucial that all supporting documents for your travel purpose are prepared according to official standards.

📌 Standard Documents

Passport: Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned return date, not older than 10 years, and must contain at least 2 blank pages. Copies of previous passports and pages with valid visas must also be attached.

Norway Schengen Visa Application Form: Must be filled out separately for each applicant with accurate and current information. If the applicant is underage, the form must be signed by the parents.

Biometric Photos: Two photos sized 35x45 mm, taken within the last 6 months, with a white background, in line with Schengen requirements.

Travel Health Insurance: Must cover the entire travel period, valid for Schengen countries, with a minimum coverage of 30,000 Euros, and must include emergency cases.

Invitation Letter: An official invitation letter approved by UDI, signed and stamped by your relative in Norway. The inviter’s personal contact details and company/address information must be included.

Accommodation and Travel Reservations: Round-trip flight tickets and hotel reservations must be provided. If your trip includes other countries, you must explain this in a petition and attach related travel and accommodation documents.

Bank Account Statement: A signed and stamped bank statement from the last 3 months showing a balance of at least 4,000 TL.

Copy of Identity Card: A photocopy of the front and back sides of your ID card.

📝 Important Notes

  • Applications from Istanbul are processed through the Consulate of Hungary, which handles Norway Schengen visas.
  • If you already hold a Schengen visa with VIS records and your biometric data is still valid, you may not need to provide fingerprints again.
  • Applicants under the age of 12 are not required to be present at the application.
  • If a family member sponsors your trip, the family relationship must be proven with a full civil registry record.
  • Foreign nationals living in Turkey must present a residence permit valid for at least 6 months after the planned travel period.

🕒 How Many Days Does a Norway Family Visit Visa Take?

If submitted with complete and accurate documents, Norway family visit visa applications are usually finalized within 7–10 business days. For foreign passport holders, the process may take longer. Applications from Istanbul are generally finalized 2 days before the travel date.

The evaluation of applications is solely under the authority of the Norwegian Consulate. The consulate may request additional documents or invite applicants for an interview if necessary.

📌 Norway Visa Refusal

Even if all documents are submitted correctly, your Norway family visit visa may be refused. In such cases, the consulate will provide you with a refusal letter stating the reasons. You have the right to appeal within 3 weeks of receiving the refusal. Appeals can be submitted to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) or the Norwegian Embassy. The appeal must be written in English or Norwegian and should be supported with documents if possible. If your appeal is rejected again, there is no higher authority for re-appeal. However, you may prepare your documents again and reapply for a new visa.
