🇭🇷 Croatia Visa

Turkish citizens holding Ordinary (bordo) passports are required to obtain a visa in order to travel to Croatia. As of April 1, 2013, the visa exemption agreement between Turkey and Croatia has been terminated. Holders of Special (green), Service (grey), and Diplomatic (black) passports are exempt from visas for stays not exceeding 90 days within a 180-day period. However, individuals planning to travel to Croatia for long-term purposes such as study, employment, or family reunification must apply for a national visa directly through the Embassy or Consulate General of Croatia.

Short-term visas allow stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for purposes such as tourism, business meetings, family or friend visits, official visits, transit, medical treatment, cultural, sporting, or educational activities. Therefore, it is essential that applicants determine their purpose of travel clearly and apply under the appropriate visa category.

📝 Required Documents for Croatia Visa

The list of documents required for a Croatia visa varies depending on the applicant’s professional and social status. However, there are standard documents that must be included in every application. These include a valid passport, a photocopy of the ID card, biometric photographs, recent bank statements, travel health insurance with a minimum coverage of 30,000 Euros, and confirmed flight and accommodation reservations. Additionally, supporting documents proving the applicant’s personal and professional circumstances are required.

Employees must submit an employment letter, SGK social security records, and payroll slips. Business owners are required to provide company registration documents, tax certificates, and a certificate of activity. Students must present a current student certificate along with a sponsorship letter and financial documents from their sponsor. Retirees must provide retirement certificates and pension account statements. Farmers must submit documents proving their registration with the agricultural chamber. Housewives and applicants without personal income must provide sponsorship from a first-degree relative along with their financial documents. For applicants under 18 years of age, a notarized parental consent form is mandatory.

📌 Is Croatia a Schengen Country?

As of January 1, 2023, Croatia has officially joined the Schengen area. This means that short-term visas issued by Croatia also grant entry into other Schengen countries. However, if you are traveling from Turkey and do not hold a valid Schengen visa, you must apply separately for a Croatia visa. Travelers holding a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa may enter Croatia using that visa.

🕒 How Long Does It Take to Get a Croatia Visa?

If submitted with complete documentation, Croatia visa applications are generally finalized within 15 to 21 calendar days from the date of the appointment. However, processing times may be longer depending on the applicant’s place of residence, the workload of the consulate, public holiday periods, or additional document requests. Applications made with foreign passports or from outside the consular jurisdiction may also take longer. To avoid travel disruptions, it is strongly advised to complete your visa application at least 30 days before your planned trip.

📝 Croatia Visa Application Form

The Croatia visa application form can be filled out in English, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, or Albanian. When completing the form, all information must be entered accurately and consistently with the supporting documents. If the applicant is under 18 years old, the form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. Inconsistencies between the form and other documents may result in a refusal of the application.

📌 Biometric Data (Fingerprinting)

All Croatia visa applicants are required to provide biometric data. Even if you have previously provided fingerprints for a Schengen visa, Croatia requires applicants to provide fingerprints separately for its own system. Therefore, applicants must be physically present at the application center to give their fingerprints.

🛡️ Travel Health Insurance

One of the mandatory documents for a Croatia visa is travel health insurance. The policy must provide a minimum coverage of 30,000 Euros, be valid across all Schengen countries, and cover the entire duration of the stay. The insurance policy must specifically state that it covers Croatia.

❌ Croatia Visa Refusal

If your Croatia visa application is refused, this does not prevent you from reapplying. The consulate provides a written explanation for the refusal, and applicants may resubmit their applications with corrected or additional documents. Furthermore, applicants have the right to appeal a refusal within 15 days of receiving the decision. The appeal must be submitted in Croatian and accompanied by an official translation if written in another language. Supporting evidence may also be attached. The final decision on appeals is generally announced within 60 days.

📌 Important Notes

Your passport must be valid for at least 90 days beyond the date of your entry into Croatia. Border police may request proof of purpose of travel, such as an invitation letter, round-trip flight tickets, hotel reservations, or valid travel insurance. Croatia visas cannot generally be extended except in exceptional circumstances. Holders of short-term visas are not permitted to work or study in Croatia. Foreign nationals legally residing in Turkey must submit their residence permit card along with their application.
Even if you have previously provided biometric data for a Schengen visa, Croatia requires new fingerprints to be submitted for each visa application. Applicants must be present in person to provide fingerprints and a signature.
Holders of a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa may enter Croatia without an additional visa. However, if you only hold a Croatia visa, this does not entitle you to enter other Schengen countries.
