For short-term stays in Switzerland of up to 90 days, Schengen visa procedures apply. However, biometric data registration is only carried out in Istanbul and Ankara. 📝 How to Obtain a Switzerland Visa?
Trips to Switzerland for up to 90 days are processed under the Schengen visa framework. Applicants must submit standard documents along with supporting documents appropriate to the purpose of travel. If the planned stay exceeds 90 days, then applications must be made for long-term national (D type) visas, such as residence, work, study, or family reunion visas. These applications fall outside of the Schengen framework and are processed under Switzerland’s national regulations.
Visa applications are received through application centers authorized by the Consulate General of Switzerland in Istanbul. During the application, biometric data (fingerprints) is mandatory. Applicants who have already submitted fingerprints within the last 5 years may be exempt from re-submitting them. However, the Consulate reserves the right to invite the applicant for an interview if deemed necessary.
🛂 Switzerland Schengen Visa
Switzerland became a member of the Schengen area in 2008. Therefore, visits not exceeding 90 days are carried out with a Schengen visa. If further travel to other Schengen countries will follow the Swiss trip, this itinerary and dates must be declared to the Consulate.
Countries included in the Schengen area are Germany, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Luxembourg, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Greece. Additionally, non-EU members Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein are also part of the Schengen zone.
🕒 How Many Days Does It Take to Get a Switzerland Visa?
The processing time for Switzerland Schengen visa applications is generally between 5 and 15 calendar days. However, official holidays, the Consulate’s workload, foreign passport holders’ applications, or family visit visa procedures requiring commitment documents may extend this period. It is recommended to apply at least 30 days before your planned trip. On average, applications take a minimum of 10 working days from the date of appointment.

The Switzerland Schengen visa application form must be filled out online. The Consulate provides the form in different languages. For stays exceeding 90 days, the Switzerland D-type (long-term) visa application form must be completed. Long-term visa applications apply for residence, work, study, or family reunion purposes and must be submitted directly to the Swiss Consulate.

Turkish citizens traveling through Switzerland to a third country may require a Swiss Airport Transit Visa. However, holders of diplomatic, service, or special passports, as well as travelers with valid visas for Schengen states, the USA, Canada, Japan, the UK, and certain other countries, may be exempt.

Switzerland visa fees vary according to the applicant’s age and visa type. The total cost includes the Consular fee, the service fee for biometric data registration, and the service charge. A reduced fee applies for children aged 6–12. Additionally, mandatory travel health insurance for Schengen visas, along with flight and hotel reservations, are arranged during the application process.
⚠️ Switzerland Visa Refusal
The Consulate of Switzerland may request additional documents or invite the applicant for an interview if necessary. In case of refusal, an official refusal letter stamped and signed by the Consulate is issued. Visa fees are non-refundable. However, applicants have the right to re-apply or submit a petition to request a review of the decision.
