Norway, although not a member of the European Union, is one of the countries included in the Schengen area. For this reason, a Norway Schengen Visa (C type visa) is required for short-term travels to Norway. With a Norway visa, you can enter not only Norway but also other Schengen countries. However, Norway must be the main destination country in your travel plan.
For your travels to Norway, short-term Schengen visas are issued for purposes such as tourism, business, family visit, cultural or sporting activities; while long-term national visas (D type visa) are required for purposes such as work, study, or residence. The documents to be prepared for the application vary depending on your travel purpose and professional status.
The documents to be submitted for a Norway visa application must be up-to-date, prepared completely, and arranged in accordance with consular criteria. Passport, biometric photo, identity card photocopy, full civil registry copy, bank account statements, professional documents, and, if applicable, an invitation letter are among the main required documents. In addition, if you have previously traveled to Schengen countries and hold a visa with the VIS remark, your fingerprint registration may be considered valid.
📝 How to Get a Norway Visa?
In order to apply for a Norway visa, you must first determine your travel purpose. After preparing the document list suitable for your purpose, you can complete your application through the visa application centers authorized by the Norwegian Consulate. Your documents are initially checked, and if there are missing or incorrect documents, the applicant is asked to complete them. Your application is then evaluated and finalized by the Norwegian Consulate.
If you have previously traveled to Schengen countries and your VIS records are available in the system, you may not need to provide fingerprints again. However, if the record is missing, unreadable, or outdated, you may be required to undergo biometric processing again.
The Norwegian Consulate may conduct an interview or request additional documents if deemed necessary. It is recommended that you consider official holidays and consular workload when planning your application process.
🕒 How Many Days Does It Take to Get a Norway Visa?
Norway visa applications are generally finalized within 7 to 10 business days. However, this period may be extended depending on the applicant’s nationality, the completeness of the documents, consular workload, and requests for additional documents. Applications made less than 15 days before the travel date may not be accepted. Therefore, it is recommended to start your application at least 1 month in advance.
If your Norway visa application is approved, the visa will be stamped on your passport and delivered to you. If your application is rejected, you have the right to reapply by making the necessary corrections.
📌 Important Information for a Norway Visa
For Norway family visit visas, it is mandatory to submit an invitation letter approved by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI). In addition, foreign nationals applying for a Norway visa must have a residence permit in Turkey that remains valid for at least 6 months after the travel period.
Children under the age of 12 are not required to be present during the application. Applicants who already have a valid fingerprint record for a previous Schengen visa can also apply without being physically present.
