🇦🇹 Austria Funeral Transfer Procedures

The process of transferring a funeral to Austria is a procedure that requires great care in terms of official procedures in both Turkey and Austria. Before the transfer, the mandatory documents must be obtained in the officially determined order and filed completely. On this page, you will find detailed information about which documents are required for a funeral transfer to Austria, in which order and from which institution they should be obtained, and the stages of the transfer process.

📌 Required Documents for Funeral Transfer to Austria

There are four essential documents that must be prepared in order to send a funeral to Austria. These are the death certificate, Formül C (multilingual death certificate), road permit, and embalming/sealing report.

Death Certificate:

The way in which the death certificate is issued varies depending on the place and cause of death. If the death occurred at home and due to natural causes, a municipal physician should be requested, and the physician issues the death certificate on site. If the death occurred in a hospital, it is issued by the hospital doctor and approved by the hospital administration. If the death is part of a legal case, it is issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office or the Forensic Medicine Institute.

Formül C (Multilingual Death Certificate):

Obtained from population directorates. Application is made with the death certificate. This document contains details such as the deceased’s identity information, cause of death, place and time of death, whether there was an infectious disease, and whether an autopsy was performed.

Road Permit:

Obtained from the municipality by applying with the death certificate and Formül C. This is the official permit required before the funeral transfer process.

Embalming/Sealing Report:

After the body is washed, cleaned, tightly wrapped in a leak-proof manner, and placed in a zinc, lead, or wooden coffin, the report is prepared. If there is a risk of infectious disease, the coffin lid is sealed with solder. The embalming/sealing report is issued after this stage.

🛃 Customs Procedures for Funeral Transfer to Austria

Once the documents are complete, customs procedures are carried out for the transfer of the funeral to Austria. The customs procedure varies depending on the type of transfer.

Air Transport:

If the funeral is sent with an escort, the escort’s details must be declared to customs. If it is sent without an escort, the details of the person who will receive the coffin in Austria must be provided in advance. Otherwise, the flight will not be permitted.

Road Transport:

Applications are made to customs officers at land border gates. Vehicle information must be declared. Translating the documents into the languages of the countries to be crossed will facilitate customs clearance.

At Marsel Visa, we ensure that all necessary official procedures for the Austria funeral transfer process are completed fully and quickly, ensuring the safe arrival of the funeral in Austria.
