🇬🇧 UK Short-Term Student Visa

The UK Short-Term Student Visa is a special type of visa designed for individuals aged 16 and over who wish to undertake an English language course at an accredited institution in the United Kingdom for a period of 6 to 11 months. This visa is only available for applications made from outside the UK and is classified as an unsponsored application. Applicants aged 16 and over who require a sponsored application must apply under the Student visa category. If the intended study period is less than 6 months, English language education can be taken under a Standard Visitor visa.

📌 Validity Requirements

Applications for the UK Short-Term Student Visa must be submitted online via the “Short-Term Study Visa” form as specified by the UK Home Office. The visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge must be paid during the application process, and biometric information must be provided. The applicant must also present a valid passport or travel document proving their identity and nationality and must be outside the UK at the time of application. Applicants must be at least 16 years old on the date of application.

📝 Eligibility and Entry Conditions

Applicants intending to enter the UK as a Short-Term Student must obtain entry clearance (visa) prior to arrival. For applications exceeding six months, applicants from designated countries such as Türkiye are required to present a valid medical certificate confirming they have undergone an approved tuberculosis screening and do not have the disease.

📚 Course Requirements

The course applied for must be exclusively an English language course and must not exceed 11 months in duration. The course provider must be an accredited institution in the UK and must issue a written confirmation of acceptance to the applicant.

🚫 Restrictions on Work and Settlement

Holders of the UK Short-Term Student Visa are not permitted to work in any capacity, engage in business activities, or intend to settle permanently in the UK during their stay. They are required to leave the UK within 30 days after the course ends or when the visa expires, whichever comes first.

💷 Financial Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to maintain themselves in the UK without recourse to public funds. They must be able to cover accommodation, living expenses, and the cost of return travel. Course fees must either be paid at the time of application or proof must be provided that adequate funds are available to pay them.

🧾 Parental Consent for Applicants Aged 16–17

Applicants aged 16 or 17 must provide a written consent letter from both parents or their legal guardian. The consent letter must confirm support for the application, arrangements for the applicant’s living and care in the UK, travel plans, and confirmation of the school acceptance.

🕒 Visa Duration and Conditions

The UK Short-Term Student Visa is granted for a period of 11 months. During this time, holders cannot access public funds, are not allowed to work in any form, and may only study at the institution stated in their acceptance letter.
