🇬🇧 UK Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa

The UK Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa is a long-term visa type designed for foreign entrepreneurs who wish to start a business, take over an existing one, or work as self-employed in the United Kingdom. This visa grants the right to reside in the UK for 3 years and 4 months. If the specified conditions are met, it can be extended for an additional 2 years, and after a total of 5 years, the applicant becomes eligible to apply for permanent residence (Indefinite Leave to Remain). Spouses and children under the age of 18 can also obtain residence permits under this visa.

If your travel purpose is only for a short-term business visit (such as attending meetings, contract negotiations, or purchase discussions), you should apply for a UK Business Visitor Visa instead of the Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa.

📌 Application Requirements

To apply for the UK Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa, you must have an investment fund of at least £50,000. This amount must be held in the applicant’s personal account in an international bank and the source of funds must be clearly documented. When the investment fund is £200,000 or above, additional points can be gained in the assessment.

Applications are evaluated based on a points-based system, and applicants must score a total of 75 points. In addition, sufficient English language proficiency is mandatory. The English language requirements are as follows:

  • Achieve a minimum score of 4.0 in all sections (reading, writing, speaking, listening) of the IELTS test
  • Hold an academic qualification taught in English and recognised by UK NARIC as equivalent to a UK bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree

Applicants must actively manage their own business and comply with the UK’s self-employment regulations.

📝 Required Documents

The main documents required for the application include:

  • Valid passport
  • Bank statements proving the source and amount of investment funds
  • Business plan
  • English language proficiency certificate
  • Proof of financial capability
  • Company registration documents (post-establishment)

All documents must be complete, up-to-date, and accurate. Providing false information or incomplete documentation may result in visa refusal.

🕒 Visa Duration and Extension

The Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa is initially granted for 3 years and 4 months. At the end of this period, if the required conditions are met, it can be extended for 2 more years. For the extension, it must be proven that the business is actively operating and that at least two full-time employees have been hired.

After a total of 5 years, if all conditions have been met, the applicant may apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. One year after obtaining permanent residency, the applicant may apply for British citizenship.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Reunion

Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa holders can apply for TIER 1 Dependant visas for their spouse and children under the age of 18. Family members can also apply for permanent residency and later citizenship.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Social benefits cannot be claimed.
  • The spouse of the applicant has the right to work.
  • Children can attend UK state schools.
  • Police registration must be completed within 7 days of entry.
  • New businesses must be registered with Companies House and HMRC.
