🇺🇸📝 I Visa – For U.S. Press Representatives and Journalists

The United States offers the I visa for international media representatives to temporarily enter the U.S. and carry out their professional activities. This visa is valid for journalists, film crews, radio and television reporters, photographers, and other media professionals. Turkey, under mutual agreements with the U.S., is eligible for this visa category.

📄 What is the I Visa?

The I visa is a temporary residence visa that allows foreign media representatives to work in the U.S. temporarily. The applicant must be employed by a media organization in their home country and intend to be in the U.S. solely for professional activities. The I visa is valid for the duration of the applicant’s activities in the U.S. and is typically issued for 1 year, extendable if the activities continue.

📄 Application Process

The application process for the I visa is initiated by the media organization where the applicant works. First, the media organization must submit Form I-129S to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This form includes details about the position the applicant will hold and the nature of the job.

The next step involves the applicant completing the DS-160 form provided by the U.S. Department of State. This form includes personal information and the purpose of the trip.

The applicant will attend an interview at the U.S. consulate. If the interview is successful, the immigrant visa is approved. Once the applicant enters the U.S., they can begin using their I visa. The I visa is initially granted for 1 year and can be extended if the conditions remain the same.

📄 Required Documents

Required documents for the I visa application include the applicant’s passport copy, biometric photograph, DS-160 form, and I-129S Petition. Additionally, documents from the media organization confirming the applicant's role, business plan, financial records, and other company activity documents are required.

📄 Family Members

The spouse and unmarried children under 21 years old of the I visa holder can join them in the U.S. Family members can stay in the U.S. for the same duration as the primary applicant. The spouse of the I visa holder may apply for work authorization in the U.S., while children can only attend school.
